DOSShell is a simple and effective front-end for the acclaimed DOSBox application. It makes it easier for beginners or those not familiar with DOS interface to run a game with DOSBox.

The creation of DOSBox widely changed the way old DOS games were played in modern computers, offering an almost certain alternative to run nearly all old games -- all while newer versions of Windows and the near disappearance of real DOS made it very difficult to enjoy old games to full extent. But young new gamers are usually not familiar with DOS in the first place, and there's where DOSShell comes in.

DOSShell is actually very simple and functional. After installing it, remember to specify the correct path to the installation folder of DOSBox, and you're good to start adding games to your list. Each game you add (by simply choosing the path and name you want shown on the manu) becomes quickly playable with a double click. That simple.

Advanced users might find DOSShell a little restrictive, because it will only help you run one executable. If you close that one you loaded with DOSShell it takes you to the standard DOS interface of DOSBox. It's the price to pay for simplicity. So if you need to run a setup utility before playing a game, you won't be able to run both the setup utility and the game itself from DOSShell. But if you can run the game directly, DOSShell obviously makes the process a lot easier and lightning-fast.

Overall it's a valuable program for its effectiveness and simplicity, specially for DOS beginners.
